CYLINDRICAL CITIES
Observing test tubes normally requires safety glasses, but all you’ll need to check these out is a magnifying glass.
Dutch artist Rosa de Jong takes what are typically sterile chemistry vessels and fills them with micro-worlds straight out of her imagination. Small hilltop villages, teepees, tree houses, and even skyscrapers are carefully molded with precision blades, tweezers and a great deal of patience.
Her miniature replica buildings are made from cardboard, but their environments are the real deal. She uses red sand from the valleys of Arizona, rocks from the Caribbean, and sticks from... wherever her cat finds them.
Once the scenes are complete, Rosa squeezes them into small glass cylinders allowing viewers to see a 360° view of her miniature levitating creations.
They’re quite fine specimens.
